What is there to do in the town?
Struisbaai is a quiet, relaxed little town. You can walk on the long stretch of beach collecting shells as well as do some whale watching. These beautiful creatures come here from June until early December every year, where they will calf or mate. To view the whales up close, boat based whale tours can be enjoyed from Gansbaai. Angling can be done from the harbour or the beach. Struisbaai is a haven for nature lovers, and there are some lovely hiking trails in the nature reserves that can be walked through the fynbos and dunes while catching a glimpse of the many birds that frequent this area. You can also climb up inside the Agulhas lighthouse and enjoy the panoramic view. There is a fascinating museum here as well.

What outdoor activities are there?
There are lots of water activities to enjoy here. You can kayak, board sail, and kite sail at the beach, as well as surf and body board. Whale watching can be enjoyed in Struisbaai, as well as shark cage diving in nearby Gansbaai. Scuba diving can be done at Cape Agulhas to explore the various wreck sites. Mountain biking can also be enjoyed.

What are the beaches like?
Struisbaai has 14 pristine km of white, sandy beach, which is the longest in the Southern Hemisphere. The area is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, because of the diverse species of fynbos that grows here in such close proximity. It is at its most splendid from autumn to springtime when it bursts into different colours. Struisbaai is part of the Whale Route.
