Struisbaai accommodation and online travel guide provides up to date travel information and a reservation and booking service for Struisbaai self catering accommodation, Struisbaai bed and breakfast venues and other types of accommodation in and around Struisbaai, for visitors to the Overberg area of the Western Cape, in South Africa. Struisbaai South Africa, offers 14 pristine kilometres of white, sandy beach – the longest found in the Southern Hemisphere - and certainly warrants being called the coastal Mecca of the southern Overberg.

Cape Agulhas is located at the southernmost tip of Africa, which is the official point that divides the Indian and Atlantic Oceans in South Africa. This stretch of coastline is known as the “Graveyard of Ships” as there have been many wrecks due to the gale force winds, high swells and treacherous coastline. The coastline curves gradually and has a beach that is very rocky. The L’Agulhas lighthouse has the distinction of being the second oldest lighthouse in South Africa. Built in 1849, the lighthouse was built to resemble the Egyptian Pharos-style lighthouse in Alexandria. One can climb the 71 steps to the top of the lighthouse to see the magnificent view of the area. The southernmost tip is 1km west of the lighthouse. Cape Agulhas includes the small towns of Bredasdorp, Arniston, L’Agulhas, Elim, Napier and Struisbaai.

Arniston has some beautiful beaches where you can safely swim in the warm turquoise waters. One can take long, lazy beach walks collecting shells and breathe in the fresh sea air, snorkel and collect shellfish in crystal clear rock pools, dive to explore the ocean wrecks, and for the budding fisherman one can clamber over rocks and walk around the eroded cliffs to find the best fishing spot. You can even explore the many coastal caves if you are into the adventure. The dunes are always a firm favourite with the children. Fun can be had with kite flying and body boarding as well. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking through some stunning natural scenery on endless shores as well as dunes. There are even prehistoric fish traps left by the Khoisan people who would submerge these stone-built traps to catch fish.

Pearly Beach is a diver’s and fisherman’s haven, and is known for its serene tranquility and wild beauty. It has a beautiful and unspoilt white sandy beach which is perfect for sun worshippers and early morning strollers. The small village lies partly obscured by dunes covered with heather. These dunes undulate for many kilometers above a stunning shoreline. Good angling is enjoyed along the vast stretches of sand, and crayfish diving is also popular. The sea is a beautiful aquamarine colour. The coastline is relatively safe, and the beaches are swimmer friendly. Great surfing can be had at Castle Beach. You can also enjoy some cycling along the beach where you will see a shipwreck. There are excellent whale watching opportunities along the coastline, where you can sit on one of the numerous benches. These waters are part of the Whale Route, and both residents and visitors are always in awe of the Southern Right whales that can be seen in the water from June to early December to calf or mate. Boat based whale watching is also offered at Gansbaai and Kleinbaai, as well as shark cage diving.
